Australia Awards are prestigious international scholarships and fellowships funded by the Australian Government offering the next generation of global leaders an opportunity to undertake study, research and professional development.

Australia Awards aim to:

  • develop capacity and leadership skills so that individuals can contribute to development in their home country; and
  • build people-to-people links at the individual, institutional and country levels.

The Australia Awards – Mongolia scholarship program began in 2013 and aims to support the development of human resource capacity in Mongolia.

Changes for 2017

Eligibility criteria

There are several changes for 2017 and they are summarised below:

    • 2017 English language requirements

Applicants living and working in Ulaanbaatar must lodge an IELTS (Academic) certificate with an overall score not less than 5.5 and no band score less than 5.0.

Applicants living and working in provincial locations must lodge an IELTS (Academic) certificate with an overall score of at least 5.0 and with band scores in Reading and Writing not less than 5.0. While we strongly recommend band scores in Listening and Speaking to be at the same level, applicants living and working in provinces will be considered eligible if they have lower scores in these two bands.

Note: Official paper-based and internet-based TOEFL equivalent scores are also accepted.

    • 2017 work experience requirements

Applicants are still required to demonstrate continuous employment for the two years up to 1 February 2017. Work experience does not need to be with the same employer.

Applicants from the public sector (Category 1) must have been employed in the public sector for the two years up to 1 February 2017 but they can be in different departments, agencies or organisations in the public sector.

2017 required documents

Applicants are required to include a Reintegration Plan as a required document with their applications in 2017. A template for Reintegration Plans is available for download. The Reintegration Plan must be signed by both the applicant and their supervisor.
