Australia Awards Fellowships 2013

Posted: 10 October 2013

Participants in the Leadership, Change Management and Sustainable Governance Framework program 16 - 28 September 2013

Leadership, Change Management and Sustainable Governance Framework program funded under the Australia Awards Fellowships was organized by the International Business Development Unit at Griffith University of Australia. It was designed for stakeholders of the Australia Awards in Mongolia and conducted over the period 16-28 September, 2013.

The workshops, conducted by experts and professors from various Australian universities over the two weeks, laid a solid foundation to understand Australian integrity systems, especially in the Queensland Government. Meetings with several judges, parliamentarians and members of integrity agencies such as the Ombudsman, the Integrity Commission and the Crime and Misconduct Commission provided good opportunities to witness examples of best practice.

Lead facilitator and director of the Institute for Ethics, Governance and Law, Professor Charles Sampford said, ‘Queensland’s experience in governance reform and the development of effective institutions within an overall ‘integrity system continues to provide useful examples and comparisons for states engaging in major governance reforms.’

Mr Sainbileg Chuluunbat, Deputy Chief of the Mongolian Cabinet Secretariat Office (Government of Mongolia) led a team of 15 Mongolian officials from the public, private and non-government sectors. He found the program, ‘very much in the current interest’ of the Mongolian Government’s systems reform agenda.

The former and current Program Coordinating Committee Chairs of the Australia Awards Mongolia (formerly the Mongolia Australia Scholarships Program) and a member of the Civil Service Commission met with ten Awards recipients in Canberra and Brisbane to learn more about their living and studies. Departmental Directors from the Ministry of Justice and Ministry of Education and Science, CEOs of the Center for Human Development and DEMO NGOs, met with their scholars to monitor progress and plan their welcome back to Mongolia.

The delegation visited the Embassy of Mongolia in Canberra to share learning experiences and discuss possibilities to improve the impacts of Australia Awards Scholarships on Mongolia’s development.

The Fellowships opened new opportunities to contribute to and promote successful bilateral cooperation between Australia and Mongolia by increased participation in the Australia Awards in Mongolia.
