Welcome Back Seminar for Australia Awards Alumni

A Welcome-back seminar for awardees, who completed their postgraduate courses at Australian universities in the second semester of 2015, was held on 18 September 2015 at the Australia Awards Mongolia Office. The seminar’s key purposes were to welcome and congratulate the graduates, share their academic experiences, their reintegration plans and innovative ideas they want to introduce in Mongolia and to provide information on networking and professional development opportunities.
The seminar was attended by over 30 participants, including Australia’s Consul General and Trade Commissioner, Mr Brendan Coyne and Ms S. Tsevegjav, from the Office of Overseas Development Aid Division, Ministry of Finance, employers’ representatives, graduates and members from Program Thematic Advisory Groups.

Mr Coyne and Ms Tsevegjav made opening remarks. They congratulated the graduates on successfully completing their postgraduate studies in Australia and highlighted the importance and benefits of the Program in developing human resources in Mongolia and enhancing development and business cooperation between the people and organizations of the two countries.
Ms Zoljargal Nyamjav, DFAT Program Officer and Mr Neville Saunderson, Australia Awards Mongolia Program Manager congratulated and welcomed the graduates. They noted the skills graduates developed through long-term postgraduate studies in Australia have contributed to Mongolia and hoped the returning graduates could successfully apply their knowledge, skills and new ideas in priority areas of national development.

As representatives of graduates from a wide range of backgrounds and levels of academic qualifications, S. Usukhbayar, MA of Laws (The University of Queensland), Ts. Munkhbayar, MA of Finance (Australian National University) and A. Batkhishig, PhD (Flinders University) made presentations. They discussed different aspects of their study and life experiences including academic environments, achievements, challenges, courses, research, people-to-people relationships and culture, family benefits, Australia’s education system and new ideas they hoped to implement in their workplaces.
Ms S. Enkhtsetseg , who participated in both the in-Mongolia and in-Australia components of the Women’s Leadership Program, provided a briefing about the program. She outlined its purpose, content and benefits and explained how the program improved participants’ leadership skills and knowledge, networking and project development skills and their understanding of gender equality at all levels. She shared her personal experiences and understanding of the importance of leadership skills and team management especially for women working at decision-making levels and her efforts through the program to build her knowledge and skills important for emerging women leaders.
Ms Ariunaa, Mozzies CEO, presented on Mozzies activities, its membership profile and future plans for professional development activities and knowledge transfer. She encouraged all graduates to become active members of Mozzies, participate in different activities and expand their networks with Australians and Mongolians in business and development sectors.
At the end of the seminar, the graduates participated in a round-table discussion on the benefits and achievements of their academic studies, shared their future plans to apply their expanded and specialized knowledge and skills and suggested ways to work and contribute together in their fields to drive Mongolia’s development.
